Skincare Essentials to Keep Your Skin Looking Younger Longer

I'm not sure if I am more skincare obsessed because I became a licensed Esthetician earlier this year, or because of my fast approaching milestone of a birthday.  But, I thought it was important to compile a list of scientifically proven skincare ingredients to look for when shopping for skincare that truly make your skin look and feel younger.

SPF
Did you know that sun exposure is responsible for 80% of your skins damage?  Applying and reapplying your sunscreen or sunblock is such an easy way to keep your skin looking younger.  I prefer sunblock that is chemical free.  Look for ingredients like Titanium Dioxide and Zinc for the best protection. I love Clarins UV Plus Multi Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Sunscreen.  It has a water like texture that can be layered over any moisturizer.

Vitamin A
Vitamin A comes in many forms such as Retinol, Retin-A, etc.  The main purpose of products with Vitamin A is to speed up the cell turn over in the skin.  When we are young, our cells turn over about every 28 days.  As we age, the cells turn over at a much slower rate which makes the skin look more dull and textured. One of my favorite products that contains Retinol is Dr. Perricone MD High Potency Evening Repair. It is important to use these types of products in the evening because it does make the skin more sun sensitive.
If your skin is too sensitive for any Retinol type of products, I recommend trying the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Ultra Gentle Peel pads.  They use Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids that also help to accelerate the skin cell turnover rate.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C builds collagen in the skin.  It is known to Brighten (combats dullness), Tighten (builds
collagen), and Lighten (lessen dark spots or hyperpigmentation). My favorite is Dr. Perricone MD
Vitamin C Ester Serum because it is fat soluable (easily absorbed into the skin) and is recommended for daytime use to prevent future hyperpigmentation from occurring.

Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid, and Antioxidants
Peptides are like natures Botox. Hyaluronic Acid binds moisture to the skin for an instant plumping effect.  Antioxidants protect skin cells from the damage caused by free radicals.  There is an amazing product that contains all three of these powerhouse ingredients.  It is Trish McEvoys Beauty Booster Serum.  I love using this in the morning under my moisturizer for the best results.

Eye Moisturizer
The eye area is the thinnest skin on the entire face or body.  This is generally the first place that you will notice any aging.  Keeping this area properly moisturized is the best way to keep that area looking younger longer.  I recommend the Shisedo Benefiance Wrinkle Resist 24 Eye Cream to keep your eyes looking and feeling more hydrated and texture free.

Face Moisturizer
To keep your skin looking and feeling young, remember to keep it properly hydrated and nourished.  La Mer Moisturizing Cream is the absolute best for hydration, radiance, and firmness.

Cleansing
Last, but not least, remember to wash your face! It removes makeup, pollutants, and debris from your skin.  I love using my Clarisonic daily because it cleanses your skin 6-10 times better (depending on the model you choose) than using your hands or a wash cloth. This allows your skin care to penetrate and be absorbed better!

Remember that if you have great looking skin, you will need less makeup to look your best.  Here's to looking the absolute best for our age. Cheers!
